Our work revolves around preparing the arriving kittens and cats for the day they meet their new families. We encourage people to take two kittens if they do not have other cats at home. Kittens need their siblings or other kittens for social development. Kittens learn from their mothers and siblings and those little ones who are adopted with their sibling or another kitten are known to be more socialised than those who are isolated from others. Foster families are such an important part of any shelter. They save the lives of unvaccinated kittens by keeping them out of the shelter where it is always a risk for kittens going through their vaccination process. Covid-19 has had devastating impacts and is forcing sweeping changes. Villa Kitty must adapt to continue operating in the new global context. The new modern shelter and hospital is meticulously designed and constructed to resolve the current problems. The new facility will be built on land leased for 2 decades and located just outside of Ubud, 2kms east of the current Villa Kitty and three times its size. This will provide the much-needed space within and between buildings, in particular quarantine and isolation wards. There will be separate cleaning areas for quarantine and isolation wards, resulting in infection control protocols no longer being hindered and reducing outbreaks of panleukopenia. Only suitable materials will be used, such as treated bamboo instead of timber, and a proper drainage system will be installed which can contend with Bali’s weather, eliminating flooding. There will be no areas of exposed earth between or around buildings, which cannot be disinfected and harbour pathogens. A new hospital will also allow for the expanding of the desexing and vaccination programs, reducing populations and intake. And by providing most veterinary assistance onsite, it will allow for an expansion of assistance offered and contribute to keeping animals with their families/owners. At present, Villa Kitty holds five free desexing days each month and one day a week is dedicated to sterilising the resident cats and kittens. With a new hospital, this could be increased to daily desexing and vaccination days. A new shelter, with a modern hospital, would lighten the load on staff and enhance the quality and efficiency of care provided. With Covid-19, it is more important than ever that that strict hygiene protocols are employed - in particular, sufficient room for staff to work comfortably. project so important? When Villa Kitty Foundation moved onto the current premises back in 2022, our buildings were not completed and our funds were depleted. While we had hopes to build a new clinic, operating room and reception, the decision was made to use our isolation building as the clinic and operating room. It was not the best option, but it was the only option to ensure we could provide medical treatment for cats and kittens in need. 2023 saw the number of cats in our care nearly double, and the need for a new clinic became increasingly urgent. Our sterilisation programme also grew, and our small operating room was no longer adequate. With the increasing number of cats and kittens coming through our gates suffering from infectious diseases, our isolation building is extremely important to ensure all the other animals in our care are safe. The new clinic and operating room will play an essential role in providing care for patients free from such diseases. Not only this, but given our limited space, we are also currently facing extremely high vet bills from external clinics where a great part of our rescue animals are treated. With a new, dedicated clinic, we will be able to provide the same care for our patients in house. With the increasing number of cats and kittens coming through our gates suffering from infectious diseases, our isolation building is extremely important to ensure all the other animals in our care are safe. The New Clinic and Operating Complex will play an essential role in providing care for patients free from such diseases. Not only this, but given our limited space, we are also currently facing extremely high vet bills from external clinics where a great part of our rescue animals are treated. With a new, dedicated clinic, we will be able to provide the same care for our patients in house.
