About Us

Enter the world of Villa Kitty Foundation in Tegal Bingin Mas.

Born in 2009 in a crowded corner of a dog shelter, Villa Kitty established its own premises as a refuge for Bali’s abandoned cats and kittens in March 2011. We struggled to survive in our original shelter until we were able to build the new Villa Kitty shelter in Banjar Tegal Bingin, Mas. Our new land is 3 ½ times the size, at 3,500 square metres.

Today, it is a busy, colourful and ordered sanctuary where the disadvantaged feline, and yes, canine residents are honoured, treated, loved and ultimately adopted.

Our buildings are still in progress but once you venture into the first pavilion, known as The Graduates and on to Anggun’s House, shaded with beautiful Ketepang trees and surrounded by spacious gardens, you will see a place created with a commitment to offering a better future to Bali’s feline citizens.

The Playground & Learning Centre will be host to the study groups we hope to hold once again. It is also home to our delicious Balinese vegan Sunday lunches once a month. We offer these lunches for everyone who comes and spends time with our Villa Kitty feline and canine family. Celebrations take place here, such as Villa Kitty’s birthday parties.

The Mothers Rooms are three comfortable rooms where mothers and their babies feel secure as the mothers nurture their little ones.

Inez & friends live in the pavilion opposite the Mother’s Rooms. Inez was our first cerebellar hypoplasia kitten, a condition commonly referred to as wobbly cats. She has a delightful personality and enjoys the company of her friends, none of whom has CH.

Next, we discover the Sun House and Central Park, where landscaping and gardens are underway. Both pavilions house cats who have completed their vaccinations and are sterilised and ready for adoption. Sun House cats are teenage kittens, all under 2 years of age, while Central Park cats are older and have been with us longer.

The Nursery is where our skilled specialist staff cares for tiny kittens, bottle feeding and giving them comfort and hope for a safe and loving future. Our new nursery allows for the newest arrivals at Villa Kitty to be housed in a separate area for their first two weeks. The little ones are cared for until they can have their first vaccination and then they move to our Quarantine building.

Our Quarantine building houses all our little kittens and cats going through their vaccination process.

The Kitten Kindy, Momo’s Room and our Bale are the official Adoption Centres. They are special places for our kittens who have completed their vaccinations and are also sterilised. These kittens are ready for adoption. My word they are! Delightful, playful, adorable kittens are ready, willing and able to become your special kitten. Or perhaps two!

The Hospital is divided into three sections: Kitten, Respiratory and Annex.

The Kitten section itself has three rooms. Firstly, isolation, for kittens with the feline virus Panleukopenia. A second room houses kittens who have returned a negative test but show symptoms of the virus. The third room is the recovery room for kittens who have beaten the virus.

The Respiratory ward is for our cats suffering from the cat flu virus. It opens out onto a small garden so the cats who are not caged can spend time in the sunshine.

The Annex is the area for kittens and cats who are suffering FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitus) or our older cats who just want an area to live their lives unperturbed by others. These kittens and cats catch the morning sunshine in a lovely open plan area with a small garden.

Our new Clinic and Surgery is a temporary arrangement. We have a long way to go to raise the funds to build our desired Clinic and Consultation Rooms, but this compromise is far better than the operating facility in our old shelter, a small step up. The front line of animal welfare sees many casualties and Villa Kitty has the resources to assess and manage the wounded and damaged. Our vets work in a clean and safe surgery and clinic.

Come in and visit with us. Sit down, chat with a cat, look around. There might be local school children participating in Villa Kitty’s educational program. There will be Villa Kitty staff cleaning, feeding, nursing and nurturing their charges. There might be a happy family, finalising their adoption of a new family member. There will be the boisterous Villa Kitty dogs, asserting their right to cohabit with the 380 or so cats and kittens for whom the village is named.

Villa Kitty has come a long way. We have a long way to go. Take the journey with us: become part of the Villa Kitty story.
